Each dental office that participates can feel great about cutting down on tooth decay, promoting healthy habits in impressionable young children, and brightening a soldier's day! This is a win-win-win situation! Not to mention the media attention you're sure to get that will make your office even more popular.

Here we have put together a five-minute video of how the day after Halloween was handled by our wonderful front office staff. You'll see children happily donating their candy and our front office staff enjoying the event. And you'll see that we have a special dancing tooth to help hand out the flashing toothbrushes! The video should give you some insight into how the day will go and what you will need to have, for example:

• a scale to measure the candy

• at least one LARGE container to hold the candy donations

• plenty of dollar bills to hand out

• toothbrushes or some other goody as rewards for those who donate

• a notepad to record the names and ages of children who donate as well as how much candy you collect

• and of course, enthusiastic, friendly staff members to make the event fun and unforgettable!

This list is limited only by your imagination! Make the event your own and put your own spin on it! Keep in mind that if you run the event during normal business hours, you'll need to attend to your regularly scheduled patients at the same time. You may want to designate one or two staff members as Candy Collectors so they can concentrate on the event and everyone else can make sure your patients are being taken care of as usual.
