Halloween Candy Buy Back

Halloween Candy Buy Back Newsletter #7

We're getting closer and closer to Halloween, and we're still getting interested dentists registering for these newsletters.  So far we have over 200 offices receiving these newsletters, and we have confirmed that at least 50 of you are hosting a Halloween Candy Buy Back.  We hope more will jump on board!  If you are promoting this event in your office, make sure you are listed here: www.thesmileexperts.com/halloween and verify that your information is correct.  If your name is not IN BOLD on this list and you are planning to host a Buy Back in your office, please send an e-mail message to jenny@thesmileexperts.com with "Add me" in the subject line and your office's contact info in the message.  The list will be updated as needed.

Fox News has been in touch with us, and it looks like they are planning to help us promote this too.  Details soon!

The media buzz is starting and continues to build!  USA Today ran this short piece in their Money section on Monday:

NEW & NOTABLE

Scare those cavities away.

For parents whose biggest Halloween fear is fat dental bills, here's a marketing twist: Coax your kid to sell his or her holiday loot to the dentist.

In a move spearheaded by Middleton, Wis., dentist Chris Kammer, some 150 tooth docs nationwide will pay $1 for every pound of wrapped, "fun size" Halloween candy turned in on Nov. 1. Their goal: collect 1 million pieces of candy — about 33,300 pounds.

The treats won't be trashed — they'll be shipped to armed forces members in Iraq. What about the soldiers' dental health? "These troops are getting shot at, and their lives are on the line every day," says Kammer. "If a little piece of candy can give them a moment of joy, I'm all for it."

One of our local newspapers, The Capital Times, ran this great feature story:
http://www.madison.com/tct/news/251558

I should point out, the Capital Times story is a bit inaccurate because of a miscommunication.  We are NOT shipping candy through Treats for Troops.  This organization won't accept our candy donations.  If you don't have a personal contact within the armed forces, Operation Gratitude wants your candy!  A lot of you have asked "How do I ship the candy?  HERE are clear-cut directions for you:

Please deliver or ship your candy donations by December 15 to:

Operation Gratitude/California Army National Guard
17330 Victory Boulevard
Van Nuys, CA  91406
Charlie Othold: 818.437.6201

If you are mailing any financial donations, please make checks out to and send separately from the candy (with a note referencing the candy) to:

Operation Gratitude
16444 Refugio Road
Encino, CA  91436

All financial donations will be acknowledged.  If you would like to receive an acknowledgment for the donated candy, please include your name and address inside the shipment.  Acknowledgments will be sent within three months.  Operation Gratitude is a 501(c)(3) organization; donations are tax deductible as provided by law.

Get your local radio stations fired up as well!  Here is a link to an interview that the Wisconsin Radio Network played last year: www.dentalproshop.com/halloween/news/25.mp3

Next week we'll be mentioned in the Neighbors insert of the same newspaper.  On Halloween, we're scheduled for an appearance on NBC 15!

Please remember that all of our local media attention occurred within just one week of Halloween last year.  But when it hit it, it really exploded!  So don’t be frustrated if no one is paying attention to you yet.  The Halloween stories will happen starting now, so contact all those media people now again!  Trust me, they forgot about you and need to hear from you again.

Keep sharing your successes with us, and also ask your questions!  The sooner we can help you, the better off you'll be and the easier your very own Halloween Candy Buy Back event will go!  Have a wonderful day, everyone!
